“Because all children do not have the same chances… “ More than ever this statement characterizes the essence of Les Grands Ballets’ mission. By creating the Nutcracker Market in 2010, Les Grands Ballets is also perpetuating the values associated with the spirit of the holiday season: generosity, tradition and sharing, allowing the Nutcracker Fund to annually offer to children from disadvantaged neighbourhoods and sick children from the metropolitan area the chance to participate in educational workshops and attend a free performance of The Nutcracker. In addition, the Fund supports the production of the show, allowing the restoration of Peter Horne’s sets and of the legendary François Barbeau’s costumes.
From November 26 to December 6, 2015, at the Montreal Palais des Congrès’ shopping mall, the Nutcracker Market lived up to the challenge for a sixth year. Thanks to the exhibitors’ contribution of 10% of their proceeds and to the profits generated by Les Grands Ballets kiosk, by works created by children during educational workshops and by raffle tickets during the event, the Nutcracker Market raised $ 98,000. The Nutcracker Market grows every year and has reached and exceeded its forecast for the Nutcracker Fund.
The 68 000 visitors discovered 96 exhibitors offering local products as well as imported refined goods. This first charitable Christmas market offers convenient, festive and philanthropic holidays shopping!
