I got this book by a mistake – it happened to be lost in a jewelry section. At that time I did not know that it is a bestseller and that it started a trend of “hygge” which is currently conquering the world. I am also absolutely indifferent to the word “bestseller” and useless as a marketing target.
However, this happened to be a true thing for me and has put in words something that I am currently searching for and building around me. The Danish word “hygge” stands for the concept of creating a happy, cozy life through the deep connection with yourself and the surrounding community. This is just a little quote, but the book is full of very different stories:
Every evening at 6 o’clock 150 to 200 people meet to dine together in a disused church in Copenhagen. Sitting shoulder by shoulder are tired families with children, smiling grandparents, and neighbours who want to get to know each other but don’t have space in their own apartments. It is the founder of the Tiger store chain, Lennart Lajboschitz, who bought the church in 2014 and turned it into a modern community centre.
Basically, guys, they are telling little stories of different people and make out of it the general way of life that makes Denmark one of the happiest nations in the world. After reading it I start understand why. No, it’s not the salary.
Tell me, what you think? Can happiness be created? As for me, this blog is some type of “hygge”. It connects me to people and to the things that I like and makes me more happy.
