Hello everyone! Friday on LOFT.bijoux means that I am presenting you a jewelry artist from Montreal or other place in Quebec. I am very glad to make you discover today Julie Levasseur, the creator of the brand Cyanure.
“Artist” is most definitely the word that defines me. The desire to use materials to express my need to create is omnipresent.
Julie is a multidiscipline artist educated in jewelry (École de Joaillerie de Montréal, Centre des arts visuels, Montréal), fashion (École Adrienne, Cap de la Madelaine), glass (Université de Trois-Rivières), and art history (Cegep du vieux Montréal, Cégep André-Laurendeau). She participated in jewelry and art exhibitions in different cities in Quebec. Cyanure was born less than two years ago. Inspired by art, music, movies, colours that surround Julie everyday, and the perpetual cycle of life and death carried through seasons.
Cyanure is the crucible of my artistic passions, the endpoint of a journey through interlacing paths. Whether through drawing, painting, design or jewellery, materials are the key to my art where structure takes a dominating position. Simplicity in complex composition, are the distinguishing marks of my intentions.
The art of jewellery transposes my vision into small unique objects to be worn. With gold, silver, precious and semi-precious stones, this work is the fruit of a passion anchored in the artisan’s knowledge, know-how, dexterity and patience.
Cyanure has adopted a creative approach supportive of a healthy, sound, realistic and, as much as possible, environmentally friendly lifestyle. I like to refer to it as; the sustainable lifestyle. Contrary to passing fashions, my approach ensues from a strong will to fight the dominant hectic lifestyle of Western society.
In this hyperactive era that demands everything be done yesterday, Julie refuses that lesser quality goods mass produced by exploited humans be our sole consuming choices. So, under Cyanure’s banner, she has adopted a creative approach supportive of a healthy, sound, realistic and, as much as possible, environmentally friendly lifestyle. If you check it on her online boutique, some stones and silver are recycled, taken from the vintage objects. Contrary to passing fashions, her approach ensues from a strong will to fight the dominant hectic lifestyle of Western society. Consequently, she mainly creates one-of-a-kind pieces.
Cyanure’s mission is not only to offer objects consistent with this thought process, but also to raise people’s awareness about the artist and craft at the source of the object.
You can get the beautiful jewelry pieces by Julie on her online shop or during design markets and other events. The price is not cheap, since all the pieces are unique and handmade, however, you can get some earrings and rings under $200.
At the moment, I mainly create jewelry, but my desire to create doesn’t stop there. The future holds a series of projects that intertwines with my jewellry, involving other forms of artistic expressions. Stay tuned..
